Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis Lawsuits

NSF Class Action Lawsuit and NSF Litigation Assistance
Gadolinium toxicity lawsuits are being filed on behalf of patients that have been diagnosed with Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF) or Nephrogenic Fibrosing Dermopathy (NFD). The most common MRI contrast agents, or contrast dyes, contain Gadolinium, a silvery white, malleable and ductile rare earth metal with a metallic luster. Gadolinium's paramagnetic properties enhances the quality of MRI and MRA scans. According to medical research, it has been discovered that Gadolinium in MRI contrast dyes can cause a serious skin and joint disease called Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF) or Nephrogenic Fibrosing Dermopathy (NFD). Both NSF and NFD are severe and disabling skin conditions that are often described as a swelling and tightening of the skin, usually limited to the extremities. Nephrogenic Fibrosing Dermopathy (NFD) is a recently recognised fibrosing disorder originally identified as a scleromyxoedema-like cutaneous disease in patients with renal disease. The first case of NFD was identified in March 1997. Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF) or Nephrogenic Fibrosing Dermopathy (NFD) may develop over a short period of days after a MRI or MRA, or the diseases could take weeks to fully develop after the injection of a Gadolinium-based contrast agent. Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF) and Nephrogenic Fibrosing Dermopathy (NFD) can also lead to death.
Five Gadolinium-based FDA Approved Contrast Agents:
- OptiMARK (gadoversetamide)
- Magnevist (gadopentetate dimeglumine)
- Ominiscan (gadodiamide)
- MultiHance (gadobenate dimeglumine)
- Prohance (gadoteridol)
Numerous MRI lawsuits, NSF lawsuits and MRI class action lawsuits have been filed against GE Healthcare, the maker of Omniscan; Mallinckrodt and Tyco Healthcare, the maker of Optimark; Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, Schering AG and Berlex the makers and distributors of Magnevist; and Bracco Diagnostics the maker of ProHance and MultiHance due to hundreds of MRI patients being diagnosed with Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF) and Nephrogenic Fibrosing Dermopathy (NFD). We believe that hundreds, if not thousands, of other patients are yet to be diagnosed with NSF or NFD.
